🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:51

In a sunny meadow at the edge of a whispering wood lives Pip, a tiny dragon no bigger than a cat, with mint green scales, a cream belly and a little red scarf. Pip spends his days watching butterflies and dreaming of adventures, but what he wishes for most is a friend to share them with. One morning a brown rabbit named Bramble hops into the meadow carrying a small green satchel with a brass buckle, and the two become the best of friends. Together they explore streams, climb hills and share berries, until Pip points to a dark hill said to hold a cave of glowing stones.

Inside the cave the stones shine like tiny stars, and the two friends soon hear a small, sad sound. Behind a rock they find Glimmer, a palm-sized sprite with pale lavender skin, silvery hair and a leaf dress, who became lost while playing hide-and-seek and cannot find her family. Bramble unfolds an old map from her satchel, but the cave has many tunnels; it is Glimmer's trail of left-behind sparkles, her memory of running water and the friends' steady teamwork that guide them through forks and twisting passages toward a cavern with a silver waterfall.

The story follows Pip, Bramble and Glimmer as they learn that courage and kindness work best together: Bramble's bravery leads the way while Pip's gentle words keep Glimmer calm. Young children will enjoy the simple adventure, the glowing underground world and the warmth of a new friendship, and the tale offers a gentle lesson about helping others and about how different strengths can combine when friends face something frightening together.

A Chapter from the Book

The Dragon and the Rabbit Jane MEADOW

In a sunny meadow at the edge of a whispering wood, there lived a tiny dragon named Pip. He was no bigger than a cat, with mint green scales, a cream belly, and a little red scarf around his neck. Pip loved to watch the butterflies and dream of adventures. But most of all, he wished for a friend to share them with. 1

One morning, a rabbit with warm brown fur and bright blue eyes hopped into the meadow. Her name was Bramble, and she carried a small green satchel with a brass buckle. 'Hello!' she said. 'I'm looking for someone to explore with.' Pip's amber eyes grew wide. 'I'm Pip,' he squeaked. 'I've never had a friend before.' Bramble smiled. 'Now you do!' 2

Pip and Bramble became the best of friends. Bramble would carry Pip on her back, his tiny wings fluttering with joy. They explored streams, climbed hills, and shared berries. Pip's red scarf flapped in the wind, and Bramble's long ears stood tall. 'What shall we do today?' Bramble asked. Pip pointed toward the dark hill. 'I've heard there's a cave with glowing stones!' 3

Bramble's blue eyes sparkled with excitement. 'Let's go!' she said. They hopped and flew to the base of the hill, where a dark opening yawned wide. Pip felt a little shy. 'It looks dark in there,' he whispered. Bramble patted his claw. 'Don't worry, I'll lead the way.' She stepped bravely into the cave, and Pip followed close behind. 4

Inside, the cave was not scary at all. Glowing stones covered the walls like tiny stars, shining in shades of blue, green, and pink. Pip gasped. 'It's beautiful!' The stones lit their path with a soft, magical light. Bramble nodded. 'I knew you'd like it.' They walked deeper, their footsteps echoing gently, until they heard a tiny, sad sound. 5

Behind a rock, they found a little sprite no bigger than a palm. She had pale lavender skin that glowed softly, and silvery white hair that floated upward. She wore a tiny leaf dress, and sparkles drifted around her. 'Hello,' said Pip gently. 'My name is Glimmer,' she whispered. 'I'm lost, and I can't find my family.' 6

Glimmer's violet eyes were full of tears. 'I was playing hideand-seek, and I wandered too far,' she said. 'Now I don't know the way home.' Pip's heart ached for her. He wrapped his tail around her. 'Don't be frightened,' he said softly. 'We'll help you.' Bramble nodded. 'We promise.' Glimmer looked up and gave a tiny smile. 7

Bramble opened her green satchel. 'I have a map,' she said, pulling out a crumpled paper. But the cave had many tunnels, and the map was old. 'Which way?' Pip wondered. Glimmer pointed to a faint trail of sparkles on the ground. 'My sparkles might lead the way,' she said. 'I left them behind when I ran.' Bramble grinned. 'Then we follow the sparkles!' 8

They set off, with Bramble leading the way. Pip walked beside Glimmer, who rode on Bramble's back. The glowing stones lit each tunnel, and the sparkles showed them where to go. 'Are you scared?' Pip asked Glimmer. 'A little,' she admitted. 'But not with you two,' she added. Pip's kindness made her feel warm inside, like a little lantern. 9

The tunnels twisted and turned. Once, they reached a fork with two paths. 'Which one?' Bramble asked. Glimmer closed her eyes and listened. 'I hear water,' she said. 'My home is near a stream.' So they chose the left path. Bramble's courage kept them going, and Pip's gentle words kept Glimmer calm. Together, they made a great team. 10

Suddenly, the tunnel opened into a huge cavern. Water fell from the ceiling in a silver waterfall, and the stones glowed brighter than ever. 'Look!' Glimmer cried, pointing. There, on a ledge, were more sprites just like her, glowing and waving. 'My family!' she shouted. Bramble hopped faster, and Pip flapped his tiny wings. They had found the way! 11

Glimmer's family rushed to meet her. 'You found her!' they cheered. Glimmer hugged Pip and Bramble. 'Thank you for being so kind and brave,' she said. Pip blushed. 'It was mostly Bramble,' he said. But Bramble shook her head. 'I couldn't have done it without Pip's kindness,' she said. 'Courage and kindness work best together.' 12

To celebrate, the sprites gave Pip and Bramble a glowing stone each. 'So you'll always find your way back to us,' said Glimmer. Then she led them out of the cave, following the trail of sparkles. When they stepped into the sunlight, Pip's red scarf fluttered, and Bramble's blue eyes shone. 'We'll visit again,' Bramble promised. Glimmer waved until they were out of sight. 13

Back in the meadow, Pip and Bramble sat together. 'We did something wonderful,' Pip said. Bramble nodded. 'We helped a friend, and we made a new one.' They looked at their glowing stones and smiled. From that day on, they knew that no adventure was too big when you had a friend by your side, and that helping others made their friendship even stronger. 14

Pip and Bramble visited Glimmer often, and the cave became their favorite place. They explored every tunnel and learned the names of all the glowing stones. Pip wasn't shy anymore, and Bramble was always ready for a new adventure. They found that when kindness and courage join together, they can light up even the darkest places. And their hearts glowed just like the stones.
