Marina is a young mermaid with warm light-brown skin, wavy turquoise hair and a shimmering teal tail, and her best friend is Pebble, a cheerful silver-blue dolphin who wears a strand of seaweed across his back like a scarf. The two of them spend their days racing through the clear water near their home, exploring colorful coral reefs and looking for something exciting among the swaying sea plants and schools of tiny fish.
One sunny morning they follow a path of old, moss-covered stones and discover underwater ruins, where broken columns and tumbled stones lie beneath hanging seaweed. Beyond the ruins they find a forgotten garden behind cracked and fallen coral gates. The garden is overgrown and quiet, and a tiny fish hiding behind a rock explains that no one comes to play there anymore because the gates are broken. Marina feels a tug at her heart and decides that she and Pebble can repair the gates together.
The two friends make a plan and divide the work: Marina gathers pink and gold shells in a basket woven from sea grass, while strong Pebble carries heavy stones in his mouth, back and forth, without complaining. When they meet again at the gates, they fit the rocks into the gaps and arrange the shells in patterns along the edges, working slowly and helping each other. The story shows young readers how teamwork, patience and caring for a neglected place can bring a forgotten corner of the sea back to life. It is suited to children who enjoy gentle underwater adventures with animal friends.

A Chapter from the Book
The Mermaid's Dolphin Friend Jane MEADOW
Once upon a time, in the sparkling blue sea, there lived a young mermaid named Marina. She had warm light-brown skin, wavy turquoise hair, and big round sea-green eyes. Her shimmering teal tail ended in soft pink fin tips. On her wrist, she wore a woven seaweed bracelet. Marina loved to explore the ocean with her best friend, a young dolphin named Pebble. 1
Pebble was a cheerful dolphin with smooth silver-blue skin and a pale belly. He had a rounded snout, bright dark eyes, and a playful smile. A strand of green seaweed rested across his back like a little scarf. Pebble was strong, brave, and always ready for adventure. Together, Marina and Pebble swam through the colorful coral reefs near their home. 2
Marina and Pebble loved to explore new places. They swam past swaying sea plants and schools of tiny fish. 'Let's find something exciting today,' Marina said with a smile. Pebble clicked and chirped happily in reply. They raced through the clear water, their laughter bubbling like tiny silver balloons. The ocean was full of wonders, and they wanted to see them all. 3
One sunny morning, they found a path they had never seen before. It was lined with old, smooth stones covered in soft green moss. 'Where do you think it leads?' Marina wondered aloud. Pebble swam ahead, his flippers moving quickly. They followed the path until they saw something amazing: tall, crumbling walls rising from the sandy floor. 4
They had discovered underwater ruins! Broken columns and tumbled stones lay everywhere. Seaweed hung from archways like curtains. 'Wow,' whispered Marina, her sea-green eyes wide. Pebble swam around a fallen pillar, curious and careful. The ruins felt old and mysterious, but not scary. They felt like a place waiting to be explored. 5
Beyond the ruins, they found a forgotten garden. Oncebeautiful coral gates stood at the entrance, but now they were broken and dull. The garden inside was overgrown and quiet. 'Oh,' Marina said softly. 'This place must have been lovely once.' Pebble nudged her gently. 'Let's look closer,' he seemed to say. So they swam through the broken gates. 6
Inside the garden, everything was tangled and dim. Colorful fish had once lived here, but now it was empty. Marina noticed a tiny fish hiding behind a rock. 'Why is the garden so sad?' she asked. The little fish peeked out. 'The gates are broken,' it said. 'No one comes to play anymore.' Marina felt a tug at her heart. 7
Marina looked at the broken coral gates. Some pieces were cracked, and others had fallen down. 'We can fix this,' she said bravely. Pebble nodded his head and clicked. 'But it will take hard work,' Marina added. 'We'll need to gather materials and put them back together.' Pebble smiled his playful smile, ready to help. Teamwork would make it possible. 8
Marina and Pebble made a plan. Marina would gather pretty shells to decorate the gates. Pebble, being strong, would carry heavy rocks to mend the broken parts. 'Let's meet back here,' Marina said. They swam off in different directions, excited to start. The garden waited quietly, hopeful for the first time in a long while. 9
Marina swam through the ruins, collecting shiny shells of pink and gold. She found spiral shells and fan shells, each one perfect. Her seaweed bracelet floated as she worked. 'These will make the gates beautiful,' she thought. She placed them in a woven basket made of sea grass. Soon her basket was full of treasures from the sea. 10
Meanwhile, Pebble searched for heavy rocks. He found smooth, round stones and carried them one by one in his mouth. The rocks were heavy, but Pebble was strong. He swam back and forth, never complaining. His seaweed scarf fluttered as he worked. He knew that every rock would help fix the gates and make the garden happy again. 11
Marina and Pebble met at the broken gates. Marina brought her basket of pretty shells, and Pebble brought his pile of heavy rocks. 'You did it!' Marina cheered. Pebble chirped happily. They looked at the broken gates and then at each other. 'Together, we can fix this,' Marina said. And so they began to work as a team. 12
Pebble pushed the heavy rocks into place, filling the gaps in the broken gates. Marina carefully placed shells along the edges, making patterns of pink and gold. They worked side by side, helping each other. When a rock was too heavy, Pebble rolled it. When a shell needed to be placed just right, Marina took her time. Slowly, the gates began to look new again. 13
As they worked, the garden seemed to wake up. Little fish swam closer to watch. The water grew clearer and brighter. 'Look!' Marina exclaimed. 'The garden is smiling!' Pebble clicked and spun happily. The coral gates stood tall and strong once more, decorated with Marina's shells. The forgotten garden was no longer forgotten. It was alive with color and joy. 14
The little fish returned, and more came too. They darted through the coral gates, playing in the bright garden. 'Thank you!' they sang. Marina and Pebble beamed. 'We couldn't have done it without teamwork,' Marina said. Pebble nodded and gave her a gentle nudge. The garden was happy again, and so were they. Exploring was always better together.
